channyuk (using Albums): So, there are folk who still use their FM's and other film Nikon SLRs, some which are knocking on 15 plus years. Some of these old models are considered classics, so in 15 years, how do you think the D700 will hold up against the likes of the Nikon F, FM, FE, F3, F5, etc in terms of a) usage and b) collectability/value?
Nikon Coolpix B700: A 60× superzoom point-and-shoot with 20.3 megapixels and RAW shooting capability. Pretty cheap used, though bigger than I’d prefer for a “compact” camera. If you are reading this you are probably thinking about buying a second hand NIkon D700. I’ve written this original review a few years ago, but everything I wrote back then still stands. The D700 is still a very fine camera in 2023. Yes, newer full frame models have even better image quality and many more megapixels.
If you don't want to think, get the D610, it's not worth figuring out if it has any issues or not. Either that or get it refurbished straight from Nikon. Nikon D7000/ Nikon D40/ Nikon FM2/ 18-135 AF-S/ 35mm 1.8 AF-S/ 105mm Macro AF-S/ 50mm 1.2 AI-S With remarkably few significant disadvantages – shooting speed, a single card slot and the 95% coverage viewfinder being the significant ones – the D700 looked a bargain, getting you D3 image quality for $1700 less. Not bad, Nikon, not bad. There have been 'compact', full-frame followups over the years, but it didn't look as though Nikon yh19i.
