Depends on the player. Some people with e.g. haptic disabilities will love aim assist. Some people who don't play shooters (much) will like there's an option to turn it on to help them aim because shooting is just one aspect of gameplay. Some people who play more will like it more "realistic" by turning it off.
One of my favorite games of all time - top 5 probably. But the game was 95% completed. $70 is the price of a new fucking game. There was no amount of work put into part 1 that could have possibly came close to requiring the price of a brand new fucking game.
